The i3+ isn't able to feature obstacle avoidance features like the i7+ or any other top-rated robots that we test. It could be stuck on power cords and socks and have difficulty navigating between different surfaces like rug and hardwood.

iRobot recommends you clear out areas that the i3+ EVO will vacuum prior to when you use it, and include putting away any clutter or toys it may encounter. It's also recommended to keep the bin and filter clear so they don't become clogged with dirt. If the i3+'s internal bin is empty or the battery is depleted, it returns to the docking station and empties the dirt into the station’s external dustbin. It then continues cleaning where it left off. The i3+ EVO's battery lasts for approximately an hour and a half continuous use, and it takes around three hours to fully recharge.

2. Roomba by iRobot

The iRobot Roomba i7+ is the most powerful model in the iRobot flagship line, and it comes with all the latest features. It's self-charging, self-navigating and -- the most important feature of all -- it has self-emptying bins that eliminate one of the main sources of maintenance for any robot vacuum.

The Roomba i7+ can keep up to 10 floor plans and their names with Imprint Smart Mapping, an application that lets it create maps of rooms so that it can clean them more efficiently. It also integrates with the iRobot Home app to let you schedule cleaning tasks and control your robot using voice or via the app.

In our tests the i7+ performed faster and more maneuverable than our second-placed model which was the eufy RoboVac G30, and it took large pieces of pet hair from all surface types including carpeting. Its biggest advantage over the eufy it self-empties its dust bin, which eliminates a major cause of maintenance and lowers recurring costs.

We were also impressed with the i7+'s compatibility Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant AI services. We utilized these services to instruct the robot on how to start or stop cleaning sessions as well as move around the room and to vacuum a particular area. The process of connecting the i7+ to these services was easy and easy with the iRobot Home app. After being connected, to voice commands to the i7+ for example "Hey Alexa vacuum the master bedroom." The iRobot Home app also provides options to manage the i7+'s preferences and monitoring its performance.

This model also has a dock that charges to 100% in around 3.5 hours and offers easy access to two attachments and the Wand clip. This is a significant improvement over older Dysons that require a long charge and are difficult to store.

The main issue with the V10 is its short running time. As CR's tests have shown, its marketing claims of up to 60 minutes are a bit misleading. This is a typical, not exceptional, battery-powered cordless vacuum's running time. It's enough time to vacuum the typical home but not enough to reach every area. (A second pass generally works). However, this model doesn't have its benefits: It's lighter and maneuverable than older cordless Dysons, and its vacuuming performance is significantly superior on carpets with a low pile.

4. iRobot Roomba 694"

The 694 is a standard robot vacuum that's a great choice for those who don't have lots of money to spend on an expensive robot. It's capable of sucking up all types of debris and sizes during our testing, and it often passes over the same areas many times to ensure a thorough clean. Its flat front makes it possible to reach corners and the edges of walls.

Its smart navigation system uses iAdapt technology to avoid obstacles and guide you through your home. However, it lacks the capabilities for mapping of more advanced models, such as our top picks, the i3+EVO and J7+ Series. This means that it can sometimes get stuck on things like phone cords and low furniture, and it often will run out of battery before returning to its original location.

The Xiaomi Mi robot is superior in many ways over the Roomba 694, as it has fewer components that require regular cleaning, is outfitted with an allergen-trapping HEPA filtering system, has a lower cost of recurring costs and has more advanced automation abilities and is better able to navigate itself. It also has a larger dustbin and charges quicker.

The elegant RoboVac X8 is superior to the Roomba 694 for a variety of purposes, because it has a longer battery life, can change the suction power mode by hand, comes with physical boundary strips, and is operated by your phone's voice assistant. In our tests our tests, the Jet Bot AI+ excelled on hard floors and dealt with dog hair (on carpet) very well, picking up 86 percent of it. However, it wasn't particularly well in avoiding larger objects, like cords and socks, which was disappointing. The app allows you to manually steer the robot, if necessary. For instance, my living room rug has a darkly-colored border that can cause confusion for other robots I've tested.
