UPVC Replacement Door Handles

As time passes the handles on your doors will wear out and need to be changed. In this case, it is important that the new handles match the critical dimensions of the previous handle.

Inline Lever/Lever

The sprung lever can also be reduced to accommodate more locks. This is particularly beneficial for narrower door frames in which the cylinder is further back. A shorter lever can be used for doors that have a latch that can be activated with the thumb inside.

Lever Pad

The lever pad upvc handle is different from the lever handles used on the majority of doors. These handles are operated by one spindle, or two spindles, either inline or offset. They are commonly employed on UPVC doors with double glazing windows handles glazing and come in a variety of finishes & variations.

The handles have been tested to the minimum of 200 000 cycles and are available in several finishes including White, Silver, Chrome & Gold. The finish meets BS EN 1670:2007 Grade 5 and is also resistant to corrosion, giving the handle a high level of durability and performance for the intended use.

When choosing the replacement UPVC handle and spindle it is essential to match the dimensions of the PZ of the multipoint lock as well as the uPVC door. This measurement may also be referred to as 'handle centres or cylinder centres'. It is important to match the right handles.

Cylinder locks are commonly used on uPVC doors, but they can also be used on other types of door. The cylinder lock is operated with a key that unlocks the cylinder case. This exposes pins that can be aligned to those in the lock, and permit them to rotate the revolving camera, opening the door. Euro cylinders can be fitted with up to six pins. External and internal doors require different levels of security.

The choice of the correct cylinder is vitally important; this is dependent on how your doors and handles are used. For instance, exterior doors require an extra secure cylinder, whilst internal doors can be secured with an ordinary cylinder. Additionally, certain cylinders have extra features that increase security even more, like anti-drill or anti-bump features.

To ensure that the euro cylinder is the correct size for your door, it must be measured correctly. The cylinder should be measured from the central fixing screw hole to each end of the cylinder including the thumb turn if you have one. It is best to do this with the lock in place however if this is not possible, you can take it off to measure. A cylinder that protrudes beyond the handle and escutcheon might be vulnerable to attacks such as snapping locks, so it is important that it's not too long.

The design of the latest cylinders includes anti-drilling and bump resistance features. They are designed to minimize attack chances by forcing the cylinders to turn in a new direction. This helps deflect the attack and keep your doors safe.

There are also cylinders that have been made to withstand snapping. This is a typical attack on cylinders. A specific tool is used to break the break line of the lock, and then the front of the cylinder is snapped off. This is faster and less difficult than opening the door with multipoint locks. It also leaves little evidence of a break-in, which can impede an insurance claim.

Spring Cassette

This spring cassette is found in the base plate of the door handle. It is a spring-loaded solution to bring your multipoint lock handles to their resting position after use. In the past, a lot of these types of handle didn't have a spring built into them and without this they are more likely to slide or 'drop' once the locking mechanism is disengaged. The addition of this simple element is among the most effective ways to fix this and it is also an effective way to keep your doors made of upvc from getting stuck in an open or closed position, since they aren't always simple to manually close by hand.

These spring cassettes are specially designed to be used with multipoint locks that are sprung, they will not fit unsprung multipoint handles and you will need to have a hole specifically cut in your backplate to allow these to fit (please see image for technical diagram).
