It's also prone to become stuck on socks and shoes and couldn't navigate densely packed rooms very well in our tests. It also doesn't come with an image sensor that lets it see the corners of a room.

Still, it's very good for those who want to save money on an Roomba from iRobot, and you have a mostly bare-floor home or office. It's also very quiet and can be used while you are at work or in school. The only thing it lacks that you won't find in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming of floors with no floor. It's also less effective in mopping, as it relies on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick on well and aren't able to take on dried-on debris. The Q5 is self-emptying cradle however. And, if you need to, you can switch the mopping pad to dry ones in just a few minutes.

2. IRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive vacuuming and mopping capabilities into a sleek, compact package. Its agile navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it quick to clean and effective at tackling larger particles like pet hair. It also has a self-emptying bin as well as powerful suction, and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best robot vacuum for carpets, although it isn't as efficient as some of its competitors in deep cleaning.

This highly efficient mop and vacuum combination uses advanced sensor technology to stay clear of obstacles and pet waste and it learns your home's layout over time for more efficient cleaning. The app lets you set up zones and modify the cleaning schedule. It comes with a battery life that is comparable to other models.

When the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted area, you can instruct it to take off and extend its mop. This helps prevent cross contamination. Its flex arm can also be used to reach under furniture with low levels and along baseboards. However, it's not equipped with the same washboard performance as our other Editors' Choice picks, the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo N8 Pro+ as well as the iRobot Combo j9+.

During tests, X30 Ultra was the quickest robot vacuum/mop that could sweep the entire house with just 66 percent of its battery remaining. It even cleans the floor after it vacuums, a feature that we haven't seen in other robotic vacuum/mop combos.

3. iRobot Roomba X40

This robot vacuum and mop combination has a sleek, circular look that looks much like a Roomba model than the boxy models from the competitors. It's one of our most attractive robot vacuums. The newest model from iRobot is among the most intelligent model, with features that are cutting-edge like Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can autonomously wash mop pads).

It's also the only robot vacuum/mop to score a perfect 10 out of 10 in our evaluations. This is thanks to a mix of modern sensors, including a restructured light system, a camera, and a variety of lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot in our tests that can fully autonomously refill and empty its base station and it boasts industry-leading 12,000Pa suction and self-cleaning mop pads.

As with other iRobot models as well, the X40 is user-friendly, offering an intuitive mobile app interface as well as integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit, and Google Assistant. The only drawback is that it's a noisy unit that could be a problem if you run it in the morning before work or at night as you try to fall asleep.

It's also quite expensive, but not as much as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or Roborock S8 Omni, which are both equally capable and better looking. If you're willing to put up with a bit more noise and some extra cost it's a powerful two-in-one that will satisfy most people.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop with a lot of advanced features that will let you get rid of your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaner like Ecovacs' top-of-the-range X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It has a multifunction dock which automatically emptys the bin of the vacuum, refills the water tank, and cleans and dries mop pads.

The smart robot makes use of the combination of LIDAR and structured light to create the floor plan and detect obstacles, and navigates more effectively than some of its premium rivals. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time hazards detection but this wasn't foolproof in our tests and could be confused with obstructions or power cords.

The vacuum cleaner comes with the capacity to suction up to 7,000 Pascals which is more than sufficient to do the job. It also has an option known as "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the vacuum's power and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas in the house based on how dirty those areas are.

If you own a larger home, you should consider selecting a robot that comes with zones or spot cleaning modes. (It was only second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with one pad that has an oscillating motion that is cleaner than the other robot mop cleaners we've tried. It's also self-sufficient with a fully-featured app, and a self emptying base that can be washed.

The well-designed iRobot app will guide you through a mapping exercise that collects information about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you mark on the map. It can be used to make cleaning schedules, plan an area for cleaning or to sort out your rooms with the most dirt to ensure better performance. The app also grants access to many features like seasonal suggestions, custom maps and advanced settings for your cleaning.

It can also reach corners and under furniture better because its shape is more rectangular. It has a powerful 8,000 Pascal suction and intelligent combs to remove pet hair. You can also set up a spot-clean that thoroughly cleans a specific area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a sleeker and cheaper alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It's more appealing, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras look like cute eyes. It does a good job vacuuming, but is more prone to be caught by low thresholds and is noisier than the other top robot vacuums we've examined. It also has an app that's less intuitive and a small base station that can't double as a bin to empty.
