The Best Robot Hoover

The best robot hoover can mop and vacuum without needing your attention. It will leave your floors spotless. Its price is surprisingly low and features that are high-end (such as dirt detection) are great features.

They also feature a feature called carpet boost which boosts the robot's power when it spots a lot of dirt on the carpet in order to get it cleaned up quickly.

Both the Q5 and Q7 Max Series get very good scores in our tests on floors that are bare and are particularly effective at cleaning pet hair. However, they do have a few flaws however, which prevent them from being our first choice. One of them is that the Q5's navigation doesn't include AI-powered obstacle avoidance, so it's prone to getting hung up on shoes and socks and can't navigate tight spaces very well in our tests. It also doesn't come with a camera to look around corners.

It's still a good value, especially if your home or office has a lot of bare floors and you're looking to save money. It's also quiet and can be used while you're at work or in school. The only thing it lacks that you won't find in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming of floors with no floor. It's also less effective at mopping. It is dependent on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick well and aren't able to deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 does have self-emptying docks, however. If you're required to mop, the mopping pad can be swapped for one that is wet in just a few minutes.

2. iRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming capabilities into a compact, sleek package. Its quick navigation and smart cleaning maps make it easy to clean and effective at taking on larger particles, such as pet hair. It also comes with a self-emptying dustbin, powerful suction, and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best robotic hoover for carpets, but it's not as good as other hoovers in terms of deep cleaning.

This high-performance vacuum and mop utilizes sensors that help it avoid obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the patterns of your home over time to ensure better cleaning. You can alter its cleaning schedule and set up zones with the well-designed app. It comes with a battery life that is comparable to other models.

It is possible to instruct the X30 Ultra to remove its mop and extend them when it's in a carpeted room which prevents cross-contamination. Its flex arm is also perfect for getting under low-lying furniture and along baseboards. It's not as efficient on the washboard as our other Editors' Choice Picks, the Ecovacs Ozmo N8Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.

In the course of testing, X30 Ultra was the quickest robot vacuum/mop that could sweep the entire house with just 66 percent of its battery remaining. It did a good cleaning job on different flooring and rooms with different flooring types, including some area carpets. Its obstacle detection was great and it was able to avoid fake dog turds and socks, shoes, and bundles of cables.

It's a bit more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, but it has superior suction, a built-in dust bin that automatically empties into its base, and also supports voice commands through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It even cleans the floor after vacuuming, a feature that we haven't seen in other robot vacuum/mop combinations.

3. Roomba X40 from iRobot

The robot vacuum and mop combination has a sleek, circular design that looks much like a Roomba model than the boxy models from the competition. It's among our most appealing looking robot vacuums. iRobot’s latest flagship model is also the most intelligent. It has advanced features such as enhanced dirt detection and future compatibility (another company's robot vacuum cleaner reviews that can wash mop pads autonomously).

It's also the only robotic vacuum or mop that scored an absolute 10 out of 10 in our tests. This is due to a combination modern sensors, including a restructured lighting system, a camera, and a variety of lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot in our tests that can fully autonomously refill and empty its base station, and boasts an industry-leading 12,000Pa suction and self-cleaning mop pads.

Like other iRobot models as well, the X40 is user-friendly, with a simple mobile app interface, and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit and Google Assistant. The only drawback is that the X40 is still a loud unit. This could be a concern in the mornings before work, or in the evening when you are trying to fall asleep.

It's also quite expensive, though it's not as pricey as Ecovacs X2 Omni or Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra both of which are similarly capable and look better. This is a dual-purpose vacuum that's extremely powerful, but it will cost you more and create more noise.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the line robot mop and vacuum. It comes with a variety of advanced features that make you forget about your chores. Similar to Ecovacs the range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-off cleaning machine that takes charge of both vacuuming and mopping, with a multi-function dock that automatically empties the vacuum's trash bin, refills its water tank and washes and dry the mop pads.

The smart robot uses an array of LIDAR and structured light to map out the floor plan and detect obstacles, making it more efficient than some of its premium competitors. It also has a camera mounted on the front to detect hazards in real-time, although this wasn't quite reliable in our tests and was sometimes confused by power cords or other obstructions.

Its vacuum has a high suction capacity of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to get the job done. It also features "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates how hard the vacuum works and alters the frequency of cleaning for different areas of the home according to the amount of dirt they are.

For bigger homes it's recommended to choose models with zone or spot cleaning modes that allow you to tell the robot to clean one specific area of your home using the app or voice controls. If you have furniture, a stairway mode is also useful. Also a recharge and resume function that allows your robot vacuum to take over exactly where it left off is great for busy families.

iRobot RX3

The RX3 is a smarter cleaner than you would expect from its price tag. It's a pro at vacuuming, picking up 55% of the debris that was found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using a single pad and a rotating motion which is cleaner than the majority of the mop cleaners with robots that we've examined. It's also highly self-sufficient, with a fully-featured application, and a self emptying base that can be washed.

The iRobot app is designed to guide you through a mapping run that collects data on your floorplan as well as any "no go" areas that you have marked on the map. It can be used to design cleaning schedules, or to set up the spot-cleaning. It can also be used to it to prioritize the most soiled areas for greater efficiency. The app also provides access to a variety of features like seasonal suggestions, custom maps and advanced settings for your cleaning.

Its shape is more rectangular than most other robot vacuums, meaning it can reach corners and under furniture more easily. It has an impressive 8000 Pascal suction, as well as clever combs for removing pet hair. You can also organize a spot-cleaner that will thoroughly clean an area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a more sleek and more affordable alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It's more appealing, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras look like cute eyes. It's good at vacuuming, but it is more susceptible to getting caught on low thresholds and is a bit noisier than the other top robotic vacuums we've tested. It also has an app that's not as intuitive, and a smaller base station that doesn't double as a bin for emptying.
